Mission & Guiding Principles

The mission of the HHS Center for New Media is to provide new media trainings, guidance, coordination, and evaluation across HHS, and to encourage and participate in the utilization and facilitation of new media communications throughout the federal government.

The goals of the Center are to:

  • Provide information on new media developments across the federal government.
  • Establish collaborations among HHS Operating Divisions (OPDIVs), Staff Divisions (STAFFDIVs), federal agencies, and other partners.
  • Develop training and guidance to ensure strategic use and implementation of new media across HHS.
  • Maximize resources through pooled tools, assets, and resources.
  • Establish best practices for planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Maintain the domain newmedia.hhs.gov and ensure its use as a means of communication with the HHS community.

The Center eventually will be housed in a training laboratory which will provide space and opportunities for OPDIVs/STAFFDIVs to experiment with new media tools. In addition, the lab will be available for specific projects, and will give users the ability to work with new media tools beyond the HHS firewall.
